Note to self.

Today I am full of gratitude.
I truly know and believe that gratitude does change everything.
When life knocks you down to your knees the best thing to do is pray.
And not only just pray...

but pray with gratitude in your heart.
Count your blessings.

Remind yourself of what you have.
And tell those you love that you love them.
Life can be really rocky sometimes but Heavenly Father always has a plan for us.
Keep your head up.
Smile.
Pray.
Enjoy the little things/the simple things.
And know that God's hand is in all things.
Love,
Kate

Breakfast at Tifiny's

It was my mother-in-law's birthday yesterday so to celebrate she and Bill came down to St. George to spend the day with me and Drew! They picked us up at our apartment and we gave her our gift:
A picture of our family! She cried when she saw it! It was tender. She has been needing an updated family picture for quite a while now and so I decided to get one of our recent pictures blown up for her! Of course I had to add my own touch to it... a quote and black edging. I loved my creation and she did too!
Wahoo for being creative and for a happy mother-in-law!
We celebrated her birthday by going to eat at a cute little place in Santa Clara called "Breakfast at Tifiny's." It was the cutest place! The entire restaurant is outside and the surroundings are designed to make you feel like you're actually in France!
[There is actually an area inside the building to eat if you prefer to eat inside...] But seriously can this place get any better?! Outside, perfect weather, shaded and beautiful, and in the perfect little location right in the center of old Santa Clara!
PLUS IT SERVES CREPES!!!!
Can't beat that.
Crepes are my absolute favorite!! Check out our beautiful masterpiece dessert crepe. YUM!
Overall it was a well needed wonderful day. We all definitely needed a break from our busy lives and it was so good to spend time together.
Gosh, look how cute they are!
So after our delicious crepes, we went to the temple! There is truly no place better to be than that special building. It was such a special day for all of us.
We're so lucky to live <somewhat> near family and we're happy we got to spend the day with Bill and Linda! Happy Birthday to my beautiful mother-in-law! I hope you had a wonderful birthday!!! You're such an inspiration to me and thank you so very much for raising the man of my dreams!
Love,
Kate

Crafts and Cookies

Maybe I'm crazy but today (my day off) I have been sick. Drew and I are both sick and stuffy and our heads feel like they are about to burst. Our voices are raspy and we are tired and groggy.
Not fun.
So you would think that I would try to rest and relax on my day off so that I can get better, right? Instead I decided to make a craft. I want to make our home for festive for the upcoming seasons and holidays so I went to the store and bought some paper.
I drew out letters and cut them out.
And I cut a bazillion leaves out of colorful paper... but I didn't end up using them all.
After laying everything out I eventually used a needle to thread the string and paper together.
  And voila.

It's not much but it's more than nothing! Can't wait for Christmas time though! It'll be fun to change it up a bit.
Oh and by the way, I also made cookies too.
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip!
They were delicious.
And I even added a secret ingredient.
Greek yogurt.
Weird, right? Well it halved the amount of fat (butter) and it made the cookies soft and chewy!
Yum! Drew loved them and he was wayyy skeptical of trying them at first.
Well hopefully someday I can be a good cook. Both my mom and mother-in-law are INCREDIBLE cooks and so I have huge shoes to fill.
Poor Drew gets to be my guinea pig. In other words, as I continue to try new recipes and work on increasing my talent for cooking Drew gets to eat my food whether he likes it or not :)
Guess that's what ya get for being newlyweds!
HAPPY FALL YA'LL!
Love,
Kate

Bednar & Swift

Drew and I got to visit my family in Richfield over the weekend and we had a blast!!! We went up to celebrate my little sister's birthday. Also, Elder Bednar just so happened to be visiting Richfield to speak at our stake conference on Sunday and so we got the pleasure of listening to him as well!
Oh and not to mention, we celebrated our three month anniversary! Wahoo!! Happy married life to us!!!
It was seriously like heaven being home with Drew and my family. We enjoyed being together. We spent time roasting smores around the fire, visiting with extended family, eating good food, and celebrating birthdays.
Funny story:
I was at Walmart with my mom and was walking down the aisle to find her. I passed a group of middle school aged boys and one of them said, "Woah! Woah! You look like Taylor Swift!" I looked over at him awkwardly for a split second and just kept walking. I didn't know how to react!
When I found my mom I told her what they had said and we got a kick out of it and thought it was pretty cute. But then as we were leaving Walmart and walking out of the doors, those same boys were standing in the back bed of a truck and they all yelled at the same time, "We love you Taylor!!!"
I busted up laughing it was so funny!
So apparently with my new bangs -and natural hair color- I look similar to Taylor Swift ha ha!
But on a more serious note, we got to attend stake conference on Sunday and listen to Elder Bednar!
We planned to arrive early at the stake center so that we could get a spot... but even 40 minutes early wasn't early enough!!! The stake center was too full and they wouldn't let us in. My entire family and I was sooo bummed. We had been looking forward to listening to him and seeing him for quite a while and now we wouldn't be able to be in his presence.
We headed to the tabernacle to watch the broadcast of the meeting. There were a bunch of people there too because they couldn't get in to the stake center either.
As the meeting started there were a couple breaks in the audio of the broadcast which resulted in light gasps throughout the congregation. I'm sure everyone was hoping and praying in their hearts that the audio would kick in and work throughout the entire meeting-- especially when Bednar was speaking.
Well the audio kicked back into shape and we were able to hear and see the broadcast perfectly...
until Elder Bednar began to talk.
We saw him stand and begin speaking and then absolute silence. His mouth kept moving and his hands would make motion but there was no sound.
HUGE GASPS.
It was so disappointing. The audio didn't work at all for the remainder of the meeting and I fought through tears and prayed with all my heart that somehow we'd have a miracle.
After about 40 minutes someone stood up to tell us that they were communicating with the people over at the stake center-- they knew we weren't able to hear any of Elder Bednar's talk and maybe just maybe Elder Bednar would be willing to come bare his testimony after the meeting got over.
Well sure enough the entire meeting got over and the man stood up again to inform us that Elder Bednar was ON HIS WAY!!!
We all stood up and began singing hymns. The spirit in the room was incredible.
Elder Bednar arrived and spoke to us and it was wonderful. When he ended, he said that although he wasn't able to shake hands at the stake center, he would get to here if we wanted to.
WOAH!
So after the meeting got over we stood in line as a family and eventually got to meet him and his wife!!!
What a sweet tender mercy from our Heavenly Father.
It was such a marvelous experience...
An experience that can be likened to so many different scripture stories and gospel principles..
A trial of faith...
A test of our patience...
An experience of a lifetime...
One that Drew and I will remember forever.
The gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints IS the true gospel on this Earth and our Heavenly Father loves us so much.
Jesus Christ lives and this is His church and I am so grateful to be a member of it!!
Love,
Kate

Labor Day 2013

I got to spend the evening skyping my wonderful mom, dad, sister, and brother! It was definitely a perfect way to spend family night, but we sure did miss Drew and Kamrby!

Seeing my family just made me 70x more excited for this next coming weekend::: RICHFIELD!!!
Wahoo!!!
Oh and btw I hope everyone enjoyed their labor day weekends... Drew and I sure did laboring away at our jobs and all. Guess that's what you have to do sometimes when you are a grown up.

No worries though-- We'll get to party this next coming weekend!
